For this year's SEMA event, AMEX wanted us to come up with an activation that promotes small business. So our team, captained by Group Creative Director Phil Koutsis, sold our concept - a live artist collaboration at SEMA 2015 that would help promote a small local business, create a buzz at the show and drive acquisition.

We welcomed back two past Ones To Watch winners Ryan Townsend and Scott MacKay to work together to transform a blank Ford Fiesta into a work of art for a local small business. And small business attendees witnessing our activation event can enter for a chance to win $500 in American Express gift cards buy signing up for a new AMEX credit card designed for their small business.

We searched the local businesses in Las Vegas and found Big Ern's BBQ, a small business that went from the local container park to opening his restaurant brand in a hotel chain. We worked with the artists to come up with a design that had the right balance of artistry and brand promotion. Marie Roberts, Brian Koneigsberg and I wrote, designed and produced all the integrated collateral. Scott and Ryan knocked the Airbrush design out of the park. Big Ern was overwhelmed and hugged everyone involved and not involved. And we drove the car off the lot in the grand finale - The SEMA Parade of cars.

This years CES show gave us an opportunity to push our insight from past shows....The people on the floor are hungry, there's no one and nowhere to get a snack, And people are overwhelmed with technology. So we kept the activation simple. "Learn. Play. Eat." Customers got a chance to play our small business game while drive we acquisition. Our Business Representatives single out who's a small business owner through the game we developed. They go on to win snacks from our Small Business partners and a chance to win $500 dollars in American Express Gift Cards. The event was a success and exceeded all client expectations.

Sponsors Florida Getaway

The New York Yankees and their sponsors chose a retro theme for the collateral associated with the Spring Training getaway. The initial design eventually rolled out to event graphics and displays. Both the agency and The Yankees organization were very happy with the collateral, and for someone who grew up playing baseball in NYC, they were the dream client.

Digital Sales Experience

To help customers engage with devices and navigate easily through stores, Verizon needed a new approach to store format and flow. The timing aligned with the launch of the new in-store branding.

ECD Lisa Diller and our team created an interactive sales experience by re-designingmultiple aspects of the store and floor plan.The new design would surprise and delight thecustomer with technology instead of makingthem feel intimidated and overwhelmed.

The new experience allowed the new and returning customer options for beginning their journey: via online appointment,  My Verizon app, or thein-store tablet. The check in, now at the entrance, enabled customers to interact with sales immediately and interface with the tablet.

For the new flow, the customer logs in with sales assistance, receives brief guidance customized to their needs and begins exploring. Clearly labeled sections, with headers above the line of sight, guide the customer through the store. 

The physical selling space, including signage, product tables and sales stations, more effectively showcased the products and utilized the store space more efficiently. To encourage sales, the accessories slide out in a drawer underneath each product.

The experience continued after the customer left the store, with follow up messaging tailored to non-purchasing and purchasing customers. 

By triggering conversational selling with the tablet, the new design would help establish trust between the customer and sales representative as well as reinforce Verizon as a technology brand.

"A Future in the Arts Begins Here"

After facing financial difficulties and lagging enrollment, The Harlem School of the Arts (HSA) hired a new administration and received funding from philanthropist Herb Alpert. Building on their new foundation, HSA needed a new look to reboot their brand and image for enrollment and development campaigns.

To infuse the campaign with the character and energy of the school, HH/EP organized a shoot with photographer Reudi Hoffman, We featured the most talented HSA students performing in the dance studio, on stage, and on the streets of Harlem.

The imagery in the enrollment campaign conveyed the performing arts helping young people have a better and brighter outlook on life. The Harlem neighborhood also became an integral part of the campaign.

We revisited and refreshed the branding guidelines, and created a new photo library to leverage in spring and fall catalogs, email campaigns, and promotional materials. We executed the consumer and donor campaigns, and pulled the consumer campaign through several mediums. The school administration showed appreciation for the quality of the work and the personal time the team devoted to the creative. As a result of the new campaign, HSA has reported significant increases in enrollment and donations.

TV / Music Video / Content

I collaborated with Director Graham Elliot
on a music video "Oddball", for the band
HEAP. Graham directed all the early 
Living Color music videos and
designed the album cover for the
multi-platinum album "Vivid".  

Coney Island, the bright colors of the amusement park, and all the oddballs that hang out there, inspired the video. We took stills during the Mermaid parade six months before the video shoot to intersperse throughout the video. We shot the video in the winter, when the beaches are empty, but the sun still shines. "Oddball" captures the spirit of the old Coney Island before developers arrived. The video appeared on local cable stations, the Heap web site and 
on youtube.

Shopper Marketing Display Design

After a few rounds of designs with existing vendors that failed, Verizon approached Hill Holiday/Erwin Penland to rethink the display for the Verizon's 4GLTE Mobile Hotspot device. 

From the range of concepts presented, Verizon selected my design for production. The 360 design allowed
for placement in any type of store
layout, regardless of size or
pre-existing fixtures.

The top messaging portion rotates and the devices on the platform below accompanied by an interactive demonstration, reinforce the speed and power of Verizon's 4GLTE Mobile Hotspot device. Also, the display can be re-purposed for other promotions. The 360 display, tested in 25 stores throughout the tri-state area, increased traffic in the area of the store and sales interaction with customers.

"Join The Movement"

playlists from iTunes to the cloud for
access at any time.

"Join The Movement" introduces
Google Play as a revolutionary offer
for Android customers. The campaign
references Shepard Fairy's modern
revolutionary design, inspired by
Russian constructivism artists
El Lissitzky and Rodchenko. 

The campaign concept, supported by
the marketing team, was approved
through the chain of command and
reviewed by Senior Executives at
Verizon Marketing and Google. The
agency received accolades from
Verizon for the work.

"Make Your Moto"

Following the launch of the Moto X, the current print and TV campaign did not focus on the breakthrough interactive experience of the website and device. Motorola gave us at Hill Holiday/Erwin Penland the opportunity to leverage the "Moto X experience" through a new creative campaign.

I realized the benefits of Moto X all connect back to the website, where the user has the power to customize and build their device.

The concept, evolved from the Motomaker web site. We utilized the iconic Chrome browser, driving potential new customers to the site.

The campaign, presented as the lead concept for Hill Holiday/Erwin Penland, was well received by Verizon, Motorola and Google. 

"DROID DOES"

While at Hill Holiday/Erwin Penland, I worked on a few new in-store posters for the DROID devices. The branding from mcgarrybrowen told the story of Droid owning the color black, contrasting with iPhone owning white. The successful collaboration yielded these posters, shown here on location. The Verizon Clients personally thanked me for all the hard work and eye-catching visuals. The stores reported increased traffic at their droid stations.

Light's • Camera • Appetite 

The Screening Room, a unique movie theatre restaurant on Canal street, used to be the only operating theater south of canal street. Today, the location houses the Tribeca Film Center.

I always wanted to collaborate on a project with my associate, so we approached the owners and proposed to create an ad for them on our own time.

The ad ran in Paper magazine, 
Village Voice, The New York Press
and Time Out.

After winning the pitch for Sirius at
Hill Holliday, Sirius needed to create
a luxury branded Direct mail package
for new customers.
